2020 SMC Alumni Association Scholarships Announced …

The SMC Alumni Association in partnership with St. Mary's College would like to announce the 2020 SMC Alumni Association scholarship award winners.  There were many credible applications that made it very difficult to decide.  We would like to thank all students who applied for the scholarships and wish them well in their future endeavors.  The award winners include:

  • "Carmen Provenzano Leadership" Award(s)

Sophie Thomson - Sophie has been accepted to the University of Waterloo's Mathematics/Business Administration Co-op program.  To summarize a few events through 4 years at SMC she played several sports, was student counsel vice- president winner of the "Joe Maione Award" and made Honour Roll with Distinction and Advanced Placement Scholar.  In her final year she earned a final average of 96%.  Congratulations and good luck in the future!

  • "SMC Alumni" Award(s) founded by Rudy Duschek

Madeline Dick - This coming September, Madeline will be attending Sault College to complete the hair styling program.  She says, "My love for hairdressing and styling started at a very young age. I've always had a passion for hair and recognized how confident it makes people feel to have their hair done and look their best.  Becoming a successful hairdresser with my own business has always felt like something that would make me happy to do everyday".  Congratulations and good luck in the future!

  • "SMC Alumni" Award(s) in Honour of Michael Plastino CPA, CA, Licensed Public Accountant

Logan Coccimiglio - Logan chose to attend the University of Guelph and study a Bachelor of Science majoring in Biological and Pharmaceutical Chemistry.  She says, "Working in a pharmacy since I was 15 has influenced me to chose this particular program as I want to learn more and have a better understanding of medicine".  Throughout high school she played soccer, did a lot of volunteering and had a passion for math.  When requested she would Tutor Math and Science at SMC for those students requiring assistance. Congratulations and good luck in the future studying at Guelph!

Simone Thibodeau - In September Simone says "I chose the program of Biological and Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Guelph because I have a passion for the sciences, especially chemistry.  Throughout her 4 years she was a competitive figure skater, member of the track team, volunteered on many opportunities all while maintaining a 90.5 Average. She will be pursuing a career in Pharmacy.  She commented, "Being a pharmacist, will allow me use my love for chemistry to fulfill my job and to help others on a daily basis". Congratulations and good luck in the future studying at Guelph!

  • "SMC Alumni" Award(s) in Honour of Wishart Law Firm

Emma Stroyan - Emma has decided to attend Queen’s University for their Concurrent Education and Science program. This is a 5-year program where she would receive an Honors in Science degree and a Bachelor of Education.  Throughout her 4 years she participated in many sports programs including basketball, volleyball and externally competitive swimming.  She became head lifeguard at the John Rhodes center and taught swimming lessons for the Autism Foundation, taught private swimming lessons for people living with disabilities. Congratulations and good luck in the future at Queens in Kingston!

  • "Basilian" Award(s) in Honour of the Basilian Fathers

Aidan Rollin - Aidan says, "My interest in politics and in the larger questions in life naturally led me to accepting an offer to study and work towards a Joint Honours Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Political Science at the University of Ottawa. It is in pursuing this undergraduate degree that I may get the opportunity to go to law school and ultimately become a lawyer and begin fulfilling my vocation in life".  Throughout her 4 years at SMC she participated in many faith-based activities and in her final year was elected Student Counsel President.  Congratulations and good luck in the future at Ottawa U!
